If relying on friends or neighbors to look after your dog remains an economical and often reassuring option, certain recent news items cast a veil of concern. Recently, a 72-year-old woman was arrested and indicted for abuse of weakness, as reported by Le Parisien. In Chesnay-Rocquencourt, she is accused of having extorted nearly 100,000 euros from two vulnerable elderly people, under the guise of friendly relations.
A retiree whose abusive behavior is currently being singled out
It all began when a woman suffering from psychiatric disorders pushed open the door of the Versailles police station, determined to file a complaint for abuse of weakness. She explains that she met a neighbor while taking a walk in a wooded area at the entrance to the royal city, where they exchanged a few words while watching their dogs.
Between June and September 2023, hospitalization forced the complainant to entrust not only the care of her dog to this “helpful neighbor”, but also the keys to her apartment and her bank card, so that her faithful companion does not miss anything. Upon her return, the two women remained in contact, but the friend discreetly continued to use her protégé’s bank card and checkbook. In the end, 42,000 euros would have disappeared.
